Should we be saying "Free Canada"?
In my country, Canada, we’ve gone from overwhelmingly European Canadian (on the order of 98.5 percent) to 25% non-white; this has all occurred since Trudeau Sr. was elected for the first time in 1968 and is largely the result of policy reforms made by the (old) Trudeau government. Nearly all Anglosphere countries radically reformed their immigration laws in the 1960s; many of the specific individuals involved in these reforms have traceable ties to Communism and the reforms as a whole seemed to be part of a wider dismantling of traditional European culture that escalated during the 60s, whether found in Europe itself or its North American colonies. This process sped up rapidly under Trudeau Jr., and in the last several years Canada has had one of the highest rates of immigration in the world.
Right off the rip I want to compare this situation to the genocide (Maybe? Possibly? Decide after this…) going on in Tibet, where a whopping… 15% of the population is now Chinese. Now, this number is set to rise, but not even as quickly as the rate of change in Canada… Canada is actually set to become majority non-white within the next 20-25 years, while the Chinese have been settling the Tibetan Autonomous Region for many years now and only recently passed the 13-14 percent mark. In fact there is old British documentation showing that even in the early 20th century (1910-11) the population was already 15% Han Chinese (There is an interesting history here; at one point the British expelled the Han Chinese and it wasn’t until the communist party was formed that Han began resettling in the region). And yet “Free Tibet” is (or was, it doesn’t seem as popular as back in the day) a legitimate political viewpoint that could be offered in public without threat of retaliatory violence… If a European Canadian started saying “Free Canada” and connected that directly with European-Canadian ethnic identity, they would be the object of scorn at the very least if not hate speech laws or physical violence.
But saying “Free Canada” makes infinitely more sense then saying “Free Tibet” ever did; we have experienced a greater rate of social change in a few years than Tibet has in over a century, and the people we have been tasked with assimilating are not from a directly neighbouring state that shares much of our cultural and genetic heritage. No, we have been tasked with taking in millions of completely disparate individuals, most of whom have no particular loyalty to Canada (and you can’t blame them; one roommate from school told me something along the lines of “we’re rich back home, it’s just nicer here”), no particular desire to assimilate (except maybe to find a white girlfriend), and no meaningful skill set to offer their new home country. And in exchange for accepting these people we get…? Tripled home prices? Uninhabitable cities (literally and figuratively)? Permanent downward pressure on all wages? These are the rewards for being a “global citizen”? I think it might be time for Canadians to wake up, pull their heads out of their asses, and asses whether going from 99% white to 49% in 1.5 generations makes any damn sense… any sense for their children, their future, and what it means to be Canadian.
